MS Access/ODBC error - "couldn't find linked table"

We have MS Access front-ending Oracle6 Server on two separate Novell networks. Both installations are using the same version of Access/ODBC driver and Oracle6 server.
However, Access/ODBC works fine in one network but fails on the other. I have reinstalled Access/ODBC over and over again, installed the Access Service Pack (V2.5), updated the ODBC driver (V1.33 or so) but still cannot make it work.
I cannot attach to any Oracle table, *NOT EVEN A TABLE OWNED BY THE LOGIN ACCOUNT". The symptoms are:
- Select attach table from the Access menu
- Oracle sign-on screen appears. I sign-on successfully.
- Access displays a list of Oracle tables that I can attach
- When I select any one of the tables, error occurs "couldn't execute query, couldn't find linked table"
I tried creating public synonyms but this still did not work.
Yet when I run Microsoft Query V1.0, I can view any of the Oracle tables without a hitch.
My feeling is there is something screwed up in the data dictionary but don't know what or how to check.
Thanks for any advise on the matter,
GV
