PRO*C, Sun and C++

I am just starting an ESQL/C project with Oracle V7 on Sun, and I would like to use C++ instead. We don't have a C++ compiler on the Sun box yet, but I've read in the Oracle documentation that PRO*C is not compatible with C++ compilers (header errors I imagine, I'm not sure since I haven'ttried it yet). Should I continue pursuing the C++ path and get the compiler, or will PRO*C work only with ANSI-C compilers? Has anyone done ESQL/C and C++ with Oracle? Will the gnu C++ compiler work with ORACLE on Sun ( Solaris 2)?
I am new to Oracle, I've been using Informix and Sybase the last 6 years. Any comments, previous experience in regards to C++ and ESQL/C on Oracle V7 would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Don Kanack.
