It isn't really difficult, if you've years of experience really hands on in Oracle system installs and builds as well as DBA work. I'm not familiar with your application, so I can't speak to specifics that perhaps you mentioned to your Oracle person and haven't mentioned here.

In our case, we're dumping two instances of V6 and merging them into our production V7 environment.

We've already done one system. It was an Oracle Data Browser for Windows-geared system, so the migration basically involved changing table builds/imports/update type processes in the UNIX hinterlands to stuff their data into the V7 version tables.

*Warning #1: Anything to do with constraints will have to be redone by hand. Syntax changes and functionality are very different.

*Warning #2: Have anyone that violates the cardinal rule of even looking at, let alone modifying, any of Oracle's own internal objects (SYS and SYSTEM's objects), be drawn and quartered. The biggest time waster on this conversion was an individual who presumed to be a DBA and who created code that did things like mess around with the V6 system tables holding constraint information. He apparently thought nothing of just dropping and inserting directly into those SYS tables without a moment's worry.

Forms V3 is supported in V7, at least in ours, so I don't understand all that stuff you've been told apparently. Naturally, it's really cool to go to F4, if you can and your platforms will support it, but I don't think you have to, at least not in the platform we have. (AT&T/NCR 3550 UNIX server)

Feel free to write me if you've further concerns or questions.
