I use a tool called lsof to help identify what Un*x processes are associated with what Oracle sessions.
It is available in the public domain (I can't remember where from - but an archie should help you out).
It runs on most versions of Un*x.
BTW :- It also helps identify those annoying processes that prevent you from dismounting a filing system.
