It does, actually. Have you .world (or other domain indicators) removed from tnsnames.ora. tnsping - nope. Stick back in the sqlnet.ora, heading names.default_domain. tnsping - pong!

BTW, if your sqlnet.ora has authentication_services=NTS, uncomment
(or comment out) and see what happens then.
