Oracle Reports is a MUCH deeper product. However, it takes some doing to get to learn how to make it do what you want.

Crystal is fine for most reports, but you will have to resort to writing views or temporary tables to get a complex report out of it.

Oracle Reports frequently gets a bad rap for performance, but I do not think that it is justified. Poor performance is always a funciton of poor
report writing.

If you have access to some good reports talent or are willing to get some help or are willing to fight your way through the product for a while, Oracle Reports is a much stronger choice.

If you just have a few reports or are not interested in learning a production reporting tool then Crystal may be a better choice. However, for easy reports, the latest versions of Oracle reports does just as well as Crystal.

Probably the only place I would strongly recommend Crystal is if you are doing the odd serious report and the tool is going into the hands of a junior developer. You can get into lots more trouble with Oracle reports than the more limited Crystal.
