8i will take more memory than previous versions, other things being equal. I've installed it and OEM on Solaris and the install went quite smoothly. An additional consideration is that 8i is eighteen months newer than 8.0, has more capabilities and will be supported farther into the future. 8i is clearly the direction in which Oracle is heading. From an administration point of view, if you are comfortable with 8.0 you will be comfortable with 8i.
