CIFS performance problem

Today we encountered some performance problems at our customer site. After checking with the customer it seemed that especially the CIFS shares were having problems. At first CIFS was getting slower until the shares were not even accessible anymore. Restarting the CIFS on the filer did solve the problem for a few minutes, but within half an hour the the problems were back again.  Checking the /Bas Klaassen

Resizing MGMT_TABLESPACE in Grid Control 12c

We noticed the MGMT_TABLESPACE in our 12c Grid Control instance was very big. Almost 380gb of data was stored in this tablespace. Because of all the targets registered in this Grid Control instance and the frequent usage of this Grid Control, I did not think anything was wrong. Untill someone looked into this and found out it was a bug in 12c... Note 1502370.1 describes this bug and also the Bas Klaassen

I was checking Oracle 12c again, because of a beta exam end of october, and noticed something strange. This time I decided to install 12c Grid software first to use the 12c ASM for the 12c database. Connect to pluggable database

After creating the second pluggable database, next step is to connect to the pluggable databases and cretae a tablespace in one of them. Before connecting, be sure the pluggable databases are listed in the listener.ora.. Oracle 12c plugable databases

Last week I downloaded the new Oracle 12c database to check this new feature called 'Plugable database'. Using the runnstaller I fist created the 12c database with the 'Create as container database' option enabled. Automatic Shared Memory Management problem ?

From time to time one of out 10g databases ( seems to 'hang' Our monitoring shows a 'time out' on different checks and when trying to connect using sql, the sql session is hanging. Oem Agent not starting anymore..

This morning I noticed a database down in our OEM application. I also received an email from the inicident, so I decided to look into this problem. I found a sollution very quick. It seemed the dbsnmp password of the target database was not valid anymore. Configure Oracle dbconsole...

For a 10g database I wanted to check something in the database console. When trying to start this console, I received the following error : OC4J Configuration issue. Oracle/ora102/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_.local_ not foundThe ORACLE_HOME is a shared one, meaning different databases use the same ORACLE_HOME. Read/Write NTFS on my MacBook Pro

Today I tried to start my virtual linux machines (created in vmware workstation on windows to install/upgrade eBS environments) on my MacBook Pro. I downloaded a trial version of Vmware Fusion. Incomplete restore....

Yesterday I was asked to help during a restore/recovery operation of the eBS datbase. Before restoring the dba'er removed the original database (rm *). After restoring the database files from the backup abd trying to start the database, we noticed the database did not to start because he could not find his redo log files. So, I solved my last problem. Deleting the registry entry of NLS_LANG solved the problem. After this, the open database also showed me the NLS error again. I decided to start again with another environment, maybe the source was the problem ;)With a new set, I ran into another problem...the database service cannot be started.
