Oracle 21c
Oracle 21c is a innovation/ short-term support release of the Oracle Database and may not be suitable for stable production environments. The "21" refers to the year of release, 2021, and the "c" indicates that it is cloud-ready.
History and Support Status[edit]
Oracle 21c was released in August 2021 and premier support will end in July 2027. The Extended Support date is not yet known.
New features[edit]
Some of the notable new features of 21c are:
- Auto DDL (Data Definition Language) Management
- Automatic Indexing
- Blockchain tables
- Executing JavaScript inside Oracle Database
- SQL Macros
- AutoML (Automated Machine Learning)
- Native JSON Datatype
- Multicloud and Hybrid Cloud Support
- Sharding Enhancements
Upgrading[edit]
Oracle 21c only supports multitenant container databases (CDBs), and the non-CDB architecture is no longer available. As a result, you will have to create a new CDB before upgrading. The ONLY RECOMMENDED way to upgrade to 21c is with the AutoUpgrade utility that can be downloaded from MOS. AutoUpgrade will plug in your non-CDB into the pre-created CDB and perform the required upgrade steps.
