I've met a lot of mistakes in my previous message. Once again :)

... Index is piece of data what allows link some values with physical structure what are used to store these values. There is no indexes in relation data model. There is no physical structure there. Only values are used in any manipulation with values. So if we have giant relational(!) DB we cannot make it smaller using described "process of indexing" without data loss. Bad analogy.
