Data Modeling vs. Data Adminisatration

I asked this question in a Oracle DBA group and got slammed. So I'll ask it here. What do you like better, develop or administration of a database. I have to make a decision at work to either do development or do DBA work on an Oracle/Unix environment and I can't make up my mind.

I like dev. because it’s not vendor specific and I like to build
things.But...
I am afraid that administration will become less in demand as
databases and software to manage databases become better and easier to
use.
