I'm afraid you'll have to try several types of IT career paths until you find one that really interest you, one you have a passion for. Once you find your interest, you'll do well in it and the money will follow. So you may have to jump from job to job until you find your niche.
A DBA itself has several flavors and covers many areas from the development side to production side. A typical DBA can be a jack of all trades.
