Hi everyone,
Recently I received several entry level job offers right out of college. My Top 3 choices are Info Security Specialist in a Big 5 consulting, other one as an Oracle Developer/DBA in financial industry and the third one as a Java Developer all in the Midwest. (I am about equally interested/experienced in all 3.)
As this is an Oracle forum, could you cast your opinion on a possible Oracle DBA/Developer career VS. the other 2 mentioned. From what I have read in this and other forums, the main pros and cons of an Oracle DBA career path are:
Pros:
- Histoty of high demand and slaries for Oracle DBAs
- Oracle's leading role in the DB market
- etc.
Cons:
- relatively tight Oracle market/relatively high number of Oracle IT professionals/expertise available on the market
- the tendency of Oracle to simplify DB administaration with every new version, thus descreasing the need # of highly paid DBAs req in the future
- Newer overall strategy for companies to decrease the # of DBs in the enterprise to a smaller amount but larger DBs.
- Elison's vision of enterprises outsourcing their storage to Oracle or other ASPs
--etc.
All opinions will be aprecialted.
