Oracle 8 NT replication and Optical Jukebox

Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to dba. The following sort of dropped on to me out of the blue. :)
Anyway, I will have two Oracle 8 servers on Windows NT. One is the main server and the other is the 'front end' server. Both servers will be on the same LAN.
The 'front-end' server will have continuous historical data coming in. At night, this data is to be transferred over to the main server. The amount of data generated per day is around 500 MB. The 'old' data on the 'front end' server will eventually be removed due to limited storage space.
What would be the most effective way to transfer this data to the main server? Is there a way to automate this transfer?
During the transfer, the 'front end' server would still have incoming data; i.e. the database is open. Would this be an issue?
On the main server, there will be an optical library (MO) for long term archival of the data. We are looking into some of the jukebox drivers/storage management software out there such as KOM and AMASS.
Has anyone used these drivers/storage management before with Oracle?
Are there any issues such as database time-outs to consider, due to swapping of MOs from platters?
What happens when a MO disk is taken offline and there is a query for data on it? Is there anyway to track which MO disk is on-line or off-line within Oracle?
I would really appreciate your help with the above.
Thanks in advance.
