I recently ran into a problem with using the design editor of designer 2.1.2. Switching between Layout and Data view of a module led to an enormous increase of some of my register branch
current_user/software/oracle/dwfd20/module_diagram_... This seems to be a bug.
You can test if this bug also applies to your case by creating a new nt-user (thereby using a new current_user entry in the register), logging in as this new user and triying modiying the e/r diagram again.

Good luck!
