I _should_ be happy, since I'm one of those expensive people.

Unfortunately, the price incentive works in more ways than one. Large manufacturers (e.g. Sybase, Microsoft, Oracle) have decided to focus on "services". This means that bugs and product shortcomings remain un-addressed for years in a row.

Meanwhile, the "skill" of the experienced database guru consists, to a large degree, of a collection of arbitrary workarounds for bugs and limitations.

I hope genuine creativity has not yet disappeared from our industry.
