I purchased Personal Oracle/7 for Windows 95 and have been able use the product without incident. However, I tried to execute SQL*Loader with the command "sqlldr" at the SQL prompt and the command is not recognized. I've tried to obtain e-mail support from Oracle but I'm not getting a response. Can someone answer several questions for me?

  1. Should I be able to invoke SQL*Loader from the SQL prompt or should I be executing it from elsewhere?
  2. I have checked the Oracle web page where they say SQL*Loader(and SQLDBA) are 16 bit applications that need you need to perform a special install from the Windows directory on the install CD. I have tried to execute it but it does not display any products in the install window to select. It sounds like a bad CD to me or am I doing something wrong?
  3. My original 32 bit install from the CD shows executables for SQL*Loader and SQLDBA in the orawin95\bin directory. When I click on SQLDBA I obtain a screen I can execute SQLDBA commands from. When I click on the SQL*Loader executable a DOS screen displays, a number of commands execute and then the DOS window closes. Can I somehow execute SQL*Loader if this executable is installed?

Please post a response, or even better, drop me an e-mail at slsurdu_at_mich.com. I'm planning on developing a search engine type of service accessible through the internet and I would be thankful to have individuals to trade ideas with.

Thanks - in advance.
