QUESTION: embedded SQL on Mac?

Question:

I want to set up my Mac at home so that I can mess around with some stuff that I have developed at Work.

So, I need a standalone Oracle database and ways to write embedded SQL (perl now, C/ C++ later). Where so I need to start?

How do I get standalone Oarcale for Mac? How much? Is it good? What kind of interfaces are available? Interactive? Embedded SQL? Embedded in what? C? Perl? Any libraries that I should buy?
