We run Oracle v.6 in HP-UX 9887 OS. R.9.04. many of our user use terminal server or PC with telnet software.

From time to time we have users who reboot their PC during system crash/locked, or we shutdown database for backup in the midnight, this to action left some shell processes, iap, and oracleorac processes in our HP-UX system, Oracle's PMON and SMON did clear iap and oracleorac from its v$process table, but all of the process still show up in the output of "ps -ef" command, and those process still share CPU resource, which cause our MRP and backup task can not finish in the time window. and we have to write a Pro*C program and a cron process to kill those dead processes.

Does anyone know any built-in method in Oracle to clean both Unix and Oracle dead processes ?

Thank to anyone who response to this message.
