Using Netscape as front end for Oracle

I recently linked an ingres database to an html browser at UMD. Now I am trying to no avail to use the Netscape browser as a forms input and then call sql queries with the variables passed in through the browser.
The parameters are not getting passed. Then I tried just a simple routine in order to get just printf statements to come out onto the screen.
All I got were the letters ELF.
I am running Oracle 7.0.???, using Netscape 1.1S and this is all
on an SGI Indigo running IRIX 5.2
Any help would be appreciated.
