We have been working on a TAR closely with Oracle on the same exact thing. Check the install.log file in the orainst directory. You may find the undefined symbol "osnproto_tab" along with link errors. You still will have a Oracle Server executable, but not loaded with SQLNet v1.

BTW, we were trying to install Oracle 7.1.6 on a Sequent under Dynix 2.1.5 with SQLNet v1 and v2.

After a month, the guru at Oracle was able to complete the install via modem by dumping the contents of all the tapes to disk and manually holding the hand of some of the utilities ( mergelib in particular ). We did not attempt this method with 7.1.6 because of limited disk space and went to the 7.2 distribution which has less tapes.

Did anyone else experience problems installing v1 and v2 from 7.1.6?
