Dear member (of this Forum) !
Although I'm not a regular subscriber of this list, I would appreciate it very much if somebody could answer on one or more of the following questions, regarding CASE 6.0 and Pro*COBOL on Oracle 7.0.

  1. Combining Oracle CASE 5.0 forms generator function in CASE 6.0
My firm is in the middle of a large project based on the assumption that applications will be developed mostly in character mode (VT420). Due to language difficulties, the only avalable choice currently, is using FORMS 3.0. Under that restriction, we are still deploying CASE 5.0 because of its code generation capabilities. If we could find a way to use CASE 6.0 but still be able to generate FORMS 3.0, it would be great. According to our analysis there are two possible solutions:
    1. Obtaining a utility that is able to generate FORMS 3 code from CASE 6.
    2. Generating code from CASE 5, using CASE 6 tables (theoretically feasible, uder the assumption that the later version has at least the information required by the older version). The connection could be direct (physically using the same tables), or indirect (utility that translates from CASE 6 tables to CASE 5, thus enabling the above mentioned generation).
  2. Performance problems in Pro*COBOL
We are in the process of migrating to ORACLE 7 (from ver. 6). In a benchmarking experiment we've just carried out, we discovered that the performance of Pro*COBOL programs declined dramatically after the transition. If anyone encountered a problem of that sort and could share his experience with us, it would be really apreciated.

If you have a solution in-hand, or any idea, please e-mail me: zoharb_at_ccsg.tau.ac.il. Any idea would be appreciated.
Thank you very much, Zohar. Received on Tue Jul 18 1995 - 00:00:00 CEST
