Hi Gail
I strongly recommend taking some education courses from Oracle. It is,
I believe, the best way to get your initial grounding in Oracle. As you
likely already are aware, there are a LOT of tools available from Oracle.
I think that taking a few of the more appropriate course help greatly.
After that, the question is, how fast can you read?? Oracle provides
about a ton or so in documentation, and you'll have to go through a fair
bit of it.
From personal experience, the first year is the worst. Learning SQL,
the tools (Forms, ReportWriter, RPT, Menu, EXP/IMP, Loader) and of course,
the database itself. Having said all that, getting an initial database
up is fairly easy. You then have something to learn on.
The only other question is really regarding your major systems. You may
want to bring in someone to tune your database initially while you are
low on the learning curve.
