Everyone,
  To answer my own question, YES, the sqlload utility does indeed recognize the time component of the date mask. Works like a champ.   My mistake was actually when I used sqlplus to check the table, I assumed that TO_CHAR(column_name) would show both the date and time by default. However, it only shows the date by default ( In a very, very wide field :-). When I used the format field of the TO_CHAR() function, it indeed showed the time component I loaded with sqlload :-)
