From: Worklife Education Resource Center <worklife> Subject: Safety Violations at Oracle HQ

NUMEROUS HEALTH & SAFETY VIOLATIONS CITED AT ORACLE On July 6th, Justice for Janitors received notification from CalOSHA that Service by Medallion had been investigated and found in violation of numerous health and safety regulations at the Oracle buildings. Medallion was found in violation of seven of the eight complaints filed, and fined. A complete copy of the letter is attached below.

WHY DOES ORACLE CONTINUE TO DEFEND LAWLESSNESS? Oracle has sent memos to all of its employees at Oracle World Headquarters reassuring that Justice for Janitors' allegations are misleading and no abuses are taking place at Medallion. CalOSHA seems to disagree. The National Labor Relations Board seems to disagree. The United States Department of Labor has found the abuses worth investigating.

WHY DOES ORACLE BLOCK INFORMATION?
Justice for Janitors has requested that Oracle send out documentation of these state and federal cases through the same mechanism used to circulate their own denials of the allegations - Oracle has ignored this request. On July 2nd, security at Oracle physically attacked Justice for Janitors protesters after they tried to pass leaflets to Oracle employees.

WHY IS ORACLE FIGHTING SO VICIOUSLY OVER PENNIES? It would cost Oracle about 3/4 of 1/100th of 1% of their annual revenues for the roughly two dozen janitors who clean Oracle's buildings to receive full health benefits for their families and have their wages increased TO THE POVERTY LEVEL. This is about a 1% increase in the annual rent. Oracle might not even have to pay all of these crumbs, as the property manager, William Wilson, holds the janitorial contract. Being the sole tenant, Oracle has tremendous influence over William Wilson. Why is Oracle so det ermined to see janitors ground into poverty?
