Howdy,
I was just going through a previous posting in this group by Drucker from Oracle talking about Version 7's automatic Multiprotocol Networking Software that allows users to submit transactions that could have some data on an ORACLE database using TCP/IP and some on an IBM DB2 database that uses the SNA protocol. The posting said Version7's Multiprotocol Networking S/W could do automatic two phase commit for updates and also allow for distributed join queries in such a scenario.
Now, suppose we have ORACLE on the DG that uses some protocol(the one used by
DG's to communicate with one another..I think it's called CEO Connect
and ORACLE on the SUN which would normally use TCP/IP.
Is it possible for the application software on these two machines
(either database to database or an application accessing a remote database)
to communicate without the
DG's having to go in for an ETHERNET card i.e. without TCP/IP. The way the
Multiprotocol Network Software was described I thought
this might be possible (SQLNET TCP/IP is obviously not possible
without having an Ethernet card on the DG's).
Can anyone out there enlighten me as to whether this is POSSIBLE ??????
This would make a Helluva lot of difference for our customers who have a nation-wide network of DG's and for whom we are developing some applications on the SUN SPARCstations using ORACLE Ver 6.0
Thanks,
Venkatesh Nakkala.
