Point of clarification: CEO Connect isn't a networking protocol, but a CEO-to-CEO connection that runs *on top* of a network. Oracle supports several protocols on DG's MV, including Xodiac (X.25), TCP/IP, and LU 6.2.

Well, you need *some* kind of networking hardware and software. As for connecting without TCP/IP, you already have some non-TCP/IP choices. If you currently have LU 6.2, for example, you can *currently* connect to a Sun running LU 6.2, using Oracle 6.0, etc. But you still need some connection path between the two machines, and that means having the DG card and software for that.
What the Multiprotocol buys you is this: If you have an MV connected to an IBM via LU 6.2, and the IBM connected to a Sun via TCP/IP, SQL*Net will support a connection between, say, SQL*Form 4.0 running on the Sun on Motif connecting to an Oracle database on the MV.
