[Quoted] I must be missing something, but when I follow the directions in the Oracle8i Recovery Manager User's Guide and Reference (p.5-3 thru 5-4), [Quoted] it just doesn't seem to make sense.
[Quoted] Step 1: connect to target and catalog Step 2: Mount, but do not open the database. Step 3: Allocate one or more channels of type disk.
I can connect to target and catalog while the database is open, but if [Quoted] I shutdown the db, then perform a 'startup mount', I can no longer [Quoted] connect to the catalog in rman. Assuming the database is down at the [Quoted] beginning of the process, how do you connect to the catalog?
[Quoted] Any insights will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John
