Oracle Forms 3.0 runs with sqlnet ver. 2 We mainly use ver. 1, but we have used version 2 on some of our test systems and our application is mainly Forms. We also have quite a few pro*c programs. We went back to version 1 because the early release of version 2 had a tendency to hang. Also version 1 UNIX Oracle sessions run under the user id while ver. 2 Oracle sessions run under the Oracle id making killing the sessions from UNIX difficult to automate for operators who do not have access to Oracle.
We know how to tie the Unix and Oracle session together using v$session and v$process so no big deal, except when the front end process goes away while the Oracle session hangs around.
I see no reason why you need to recompile your form or pro*c program when switching from sqlnet ver. 1 and 2. We run both at once and the user connect string determines which type of process they get. We have distributed databases that are older versions which only have sqlnet ver. 1.
