ROWID

From Oracle FAQ

Jump to: navigation, search

Every record has a unique ROWID within a database representing the physical location on disk where the record lives.

From Oracle 8 the ROWID format and size changed from 6 to 10 bytes. The Oracle 7 format is Block.Row.File. The Oracle 8 format is dataObjectNumber, block, row.

Note that ROWID's will change when you reorganize or export/import a table.
