What you need in theory to solve problems in practice, and what you need in practice to solve problems in practice, are two entirely different things.

You're just disagreeable because your POV is heavily bound to the pedagogy of Date et al which attempts to reduce current practice to a data-centric model conceived in response to the technological environment of the 1970's.
