This is true - the architecture of PostgreSQL is fiendish enough, and the architecture of Ingres (given its feature set) is likely to be more fiendish. I get the feeling CA recognise this though and are prepared to try doing things to encourage people up the slope and start contributing. I would keep an eye on the web site for more info.
