Wow, isn't this a bit of overkill? Given that you have to interpret binary data now, why not receive the fax as a bitmap and process *that*? You'd save the cost of a CCD scanner, and I expect the coding wouldn't be any more or less difficult, except for the lack of an interface to the scanner.

At this point, we're not really talking about databases any more...
