: Sounds like a Xwindows permissions problem. Try xhost +`hostname`.
Eeek ! Just realised the significance of backticks in Unix :) Apologies for the bandwidth, but my ISP doesn't appear to allow me to cancel my own posts.
The line should have read 'xhost +<your hostname goes here>'.
