Breaking into this field is hard period. Having some formal training in ORACLE and it's tools may get you in the door (that is get you the interview). You must widen your search as much as you can, and realize that the range of existing experience in ORACLE varies widely. If you have additional experience in these items it will greatly help (This is from the market in Orlando, FL):

  1. Object Oriented Programming
  2. Formal Structured Design
  3. Any other Language (C,C++,VBASIC)
  4. Operating System Skills (WIN NT, WIN 95 programming, UNIX)
  5. Database Design and Implementation

I don't know where you are but if you are looking for a job in ORACLE, check out Orlando, FL it is growing with many ORACLE Entry level positions.
