Unix Application Partitioning
In building client/server applications, it is critical to move parts of the application to the right computers.
Forte Software Inc., of Oakland, champions the application partitioning concept. Its release 2.0 supports legacy / Unix / PC linkups, and supports DCE, CORBA, and Encina. It goes way beyond two-tier systems like a client PC accessing a Unix database server; the Forte approach involves consolidating business rules in a layer between the clients and the database.
Ed Horst, Forte Director of Technical Marketing, will discuss the issues of building modern, multi-tier applications for distributed applications, and what Forte can do here. Ed was an MIS director who innovatively used RDBMSs in the 1980s. He then worked for Ingres and Servio, and joined Forte in 1991 as Director of Product Management.
