Be aware, there are UNIX systems, where the file 'oratab' resides somewhere in the '/var' path, either there or '/var/opt' or '/var/etc', I don't remember precisely.
Also note, that there may be comments in the file in shell syntax: all after a hash sign (#) up to the end of line is to be ignored.
