Please forgive me if this is a FAQ. I have been lurking for a week and I have seen very few posts about Oracle7 running under the OS/2 operating system.

I conclude that few people are using it or it is a dog or perfect :)

I am an OS/2 comms specialist and know very little about Oracle, a situation that is changing :(

We are running 7.0.16.1 with 7.0.16.3 imminent. The box is a 100Mhz Pentium, 64Mb RAM 256k L2 Cache ( I have already said this is silly) and a mirrored 1GB drive. IBM LAN Server HPFS386 is installed.

The box is running a lot of tasks, including Oracle but it is the relationship between Oracle 7 and OS/2(HPFS386) about which I could use some insight.

It seems to me, as an illiterate in these matters, that Oracle and OS/2 were made to be kept far away from each other. As soon as an Oracle task starts the number of dispatchs made by the operating system goes through the roof. I am seeing 100% CPU Utilization 30% to 40% of this seems to be in the OS/2 kernel.

Does anybody use oracle7 on OS/2 (with Advanced LAN Server) ?

Is it my imagination or is Oracle7 severly suboptimal under OS/2

Is Oracle7 for OS/2 a real port or a quick hack? It certainly does not look as if it is multi threaded.

Any assistance or guidance, even of the "poor sod" variety would be very welcome.
