Hi Richard --

I use OS/2 2.1 and Oracle v7 on my system and aside from Oracle not supporting the OS/2 version with a GUI frontend ala their CDE2 tools for the Windows (Gaacckkk!) platform, it seems to work just fine. I do all my database architecture design work on my home system and then use those same designs for the company(ies) I consult for. Works OK.

I only have a 486 DX2-66 with 16meg-o-ram and while not dealing with multi-gigabyte database, it works fine with maybe the 1000's of records that I would use for testing. Oracle always works best when it has a system dedicated just to itself with multiple disks available to handle all the I/O.

If you are using the Pulse applet that comes with OS/2 to do system monitoring - THROW IT AWAY! Get a commercial OS/2-based monitoring application (they are not very expensive) that will give you real-time data. Examples would be CPU Monitor Plus by Bon Ami, or SPMS from IBM (this is the best if you are networking).

Hope this helps
Mike
