We are planning to roughly triple the current size of our Oracle 6.0 database and are concerned about the implications that this will have on its performance. Also, under our current policies, we have a production machine and a backup machine which also functions as our development testbed. As a result, any database changes made on our devel machine must be mirrored on the production box.

One suggestion that I have received is to create a raw file system and allow all of the journalling to be controlled by Oracle itself. This would entail having to move up to Oracle 7.0 and mirroring the database on 2 different physical drives.

We are currently running on an RS6000 platform under AIX 3.2.

If you have any suggestions/experiences(especially bad ones) with attempting to do anything similar, please mail directly to me or post to this newsgroup.

PS: My last post about default values for date received several excellent

responses and I thank everyone for responding.
