Can't argue with you there (about being scared).

I've got a client where quite a bit of Oracle stuff "happens". I think that they're up around 20,000 MB (and growing daily). They're running HP 9000/827's (three or so, SQL/NET, etc). I installed oraperl and everything seemed pretty cool, until I tried to do an "UPDATE ..." and it kept telling me that my statement was improperly terminated (SQL/PLUS and then PRO*C both liked it with no changes.

Then a comparison of output with SQLPLUS output showed that sometimes rows just didn't show up when the same query was executed.

They decided that they didn't want to have anyone debug or maintain oraperl.

Since I had already coded up a ~2000 line oraperl program (script?) I converted it to PRO*C. Took the better part of a day.

I can certainly see its utility in doing quick and dirty prototype things.
