We are upgrading our retail locations Point of Sale system (POS) to SCO UNIX and would like to deploy ORACLE as a server on the SCO box (PS2-486). The POS is third party vendor software not written in ORACLE. ORACLE will be used for managment applications and will get low to moderate daily usage.

Not knowing a lot about UNIX (yet) and knowing how ORACLE can tend to dominate a machine, we are somewhat concerned that ORACLE will may degrade our POS performance. Our ORACLE sales rep claims that ORACLE7 has CPU tuning features that will stop "queries from hell" and generally limit the amount of resources that the RDBMS will use during business hours. Has anyone out there used these features ? Will we be able to maintain an acceptable level of performance on both POS and ORACLE ? Any insight/experience is much appreciated.
