How about installing something like Mks TookKit ( http://www.mkssoftware.com/ ) that will create a Unix-Like environment on Windows. This software is fairly cheap I think.

This environment might then allow the ability to either go directly to the tape device or use the "named pipe" method. I could explain the "named pipe" [Quoted] method if you want or you could search and probably find some examples.

Maybe someone more familiar than me with the Mks ToolKit could respond on the possibility of this.
