I have a similar problem with an Oracle Personal Edition 8.0.4 database that does not work anymore after installing Designer 6. I think the reason is due to Designer 6 using 8.0.5 SQL*Net client DLLs which overwrite the 8.0.4 SQL*Net DLLs used by the PO8 oracle executable. You must create separate Oracle Homes for PO8 and Designer 6. I do not know why Oracle hasn't posted a solution for this yet? Cheers,
PaulV.
