Had the same problem also - bought a book with a demo copy of PO7 and D/2000 which worked just fine.

In desperation, I deinstalled the demo versions, reinstalled PO8.0.3 and D/2000 - it works. IT WORKS! YESSS! Why? I don't know. But iT WORKS! I can start the database, start the listener, start Forms Designer and connect using the standard database connection 'tcp-loopback'.

I changed no config files whatsoever.
