With Netscape 4.04, go to home.netscape.com, click the Download link and then the Smart Update link, and select the JDK 1.1 Smart Update. You should be able to use Netscape successfully after that. The out-of-the-box version comes with a 1.02 version of the JDK which won't work with the Java client.
