We've been using Oracle and Rdb for approximately the last 10 years, originally both on DEC hardware. Approximately 4 years ago we made a strategic decision to move from DEC/VMS to HP/Unix and the company selected Oracle as the strategic database. So, while we continue to upgrade our HP and Oracle licenses, we haven't been putting any effort into staying current on the DEC/Rdb side of things. We are now in the process of migrating our remaining Rdb application to Oracle.

I'm not here to argue about which is a better database, Oracle or Rdb (especially in an Rdb newsgroup ;)). For us, it's been mostly an economic decision since the company funds Oracle licenses at the corporate level. Also, from a support POV, it makes more sense to have a single OS and database.

Again, no database bashing was intended. Received on Tue Aug 26 1997 - 00:00:00 CEST
