There is a third method - there is a piece of software out there called ORAXCEL that will take your files from Excel into Oracle without the messy scripts inbetween (if you are in a real hurry!). Check out http://members.aol.com/gjlinker/

Otherwise, the manual for SQLLoader that came with your Oracle software is the next stop. After that, there are two books that I rely on - Oracle8 the Complete Reference (OraclePress) and Oracle Database Adminstration (O'Reilly and Associates). ODA is a little easier to find stuff in and doesn't spend time on creating reports, but if the answer is not in O8CR, then you have a long hunt ahead of you. I have both at my elbow and the doc CD mounted on the server.
