Hi,
I am planning to put my database in archive log mode but am consfused regarding the destination. Oracle manuals/books suggest that you should first archive on a seperate hard disk and from there schedule backup's to the tape drive.

If i do this i can as well take a export and put it on the tape and delete the old archive log's from the hard disk . Where is the need to back them up on the Tape since i already have the latest export .There is no need for me to backup the archive log's on a Tape. Everyday I can backup my exports on a Tape drive and immediately after that delete the archive log's from the seperate hard Disk.,.

My question is what is the best practice and what are it's advantages and disadvantages..

Thanks
