We also encountered this problem. Oracle Support tells us that 8i allows self-referential constraints (I believe it is in many of the Java tables) but 7.3.4 does not. Not much you can do. we ended up creating another 8i database (without Java), exp/imp between the 8i databases, then exp/imp between the "new" 8i database and the 7.3.4 database.
